Kung Fu
At Lehigh Valley Martial Arts, students can expect an innovative style to teaching. All instructors at LVMA understand the concepts and theories behind the particular movements being practiced and can explain them to the students in a way that will make sense for them.
As a student in our Kung Fu program you will learn basic strikes, blocks, and kicks but you will not be expected to just copy or mimic the motions. You will be taught to understand exactly why you are moving in a particular way and how and why it works.
The traditional Five Animal sets and forms (Tiger, Mantis, Crane, Snake, and Dragon) are taught here at LVMA but with a slightly different approach. As students practice the movements of the form, they also learn the practical applications of these movements and how they come together in a real life situation. You will also learn about the attitudes of the particular animals and how utilizing these can aide in self defense.
Self-Defense is taught with the idea that an opponent never throws just “one” punch but most often attacks with a flurry of punches. LVMA students are taught the principles of good self defense which allows them to move at will, preventing the blows from landing and always placing themselves in the best position possible to put an end to the attack.
Our Kung Fu program utilizes a style of sparring known as Chi Sau which prepares the student for real life situations in a way that traditional sparring cannot. In traditional sparring there are rules, rings, and points and everything starts with partners squaring off with their hands up. No real fight has ever started that way or followed any type of sporting rules. In Chi Sau students learn to pay attention to the subtle movements of the opponent, make a connection with that opponent and capitalize on it.
The Kung Fu Program at Lehigh Valley Martial Arts has something for everyone whether they are
beginners or seasoned martial artists. Call today to get started!
